Dual Stream Recycling (No Bags Please!):

  • 1st & 3rd Wednesday of each month = glass, plastic, aluminum & tin collection

  • 2nd & 4th Wednesday of each month = paper & cardboard collection

Drop Off

While curbside recycling is still available to residents, dumpsters are also located at 320 Rivervale Road, the DPW building, for residents to drop off recyclables Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am - 2:30pm.  The Recycling Center is closed on weekends and holidays.

Only the following recyclable items are permitted to be dropped off & collected:

  • Commingled - Properly Rinsed Aluminum and Tin Cans, Glass and Plastic #1, 2 and 5 ONLY. NO PLASTIC BAGS ALLOWED.

  • Paper - Newspaper, Books, Magazines

  • Cardboard - BROKEN DOWN Cardboard Boxes. Please make sure boxes are flattened and do not contain packing materials nor anything else.

Garbage collection is a separate, private service and is not provided by the Township's DPW.

Electronics Recycling

We now have Electronics Recycling added to our Initiative. You may now drop off your electronics for recycling Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 am - 2:30pm. at the River Vale DPW office located at 320 Rivervale Road.

White Goods / Metals 

  • Picked up on Thursdays

  • Please complete this request form or call the DPW at 201-664-2346, ext. 1400 to schedule a pick up of white goods and metals (large appliances like refrigerators, washing machines, etc.)

Hazardous Waste

Take Your Hazardous Waste to a Safer Place!

Check with the Bergen County Utilities Authority 201-641-2552 for a complete list of acceptable and unacceptable materials for collection as well as waste collection and paper shredding events.

Paper Shredding

Open to residents in both River Vale and Montvale, the 2024 events will be held from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm:

-Sunday, June 9 at the Mark Lane Sports Complex in River Vale

-Saturday, October 26 at 1 Memorial Drive, Montvale.
